St. Stephen

Welcome to St. Stephen!

Saint Stephen is a small town located in Charlotte County, New Brunswick, Canada. The town sits on the eastern bank of the St. Croix River, which forms the border between Canada and the United States. It is known as “Canada’s Chocolate Town” due to the presence of the Ganong chocolate factory, which has been producing chocolates and sweets for over a century.

Saint Stephen is also home to the St. Croix Island International Historic Site, which commemorates the first French attempt to colonize the area in the 17th century. The site includes a museum and interpretive center that tells the story of the failed settlement and its impact on the history of the region.

The town of Saint Stephen has a rich cultural heritage, with a blend of Acadian, British, and Indigenous traditions. Visitors can explore the town’s historic architecture, including the Old Gaol, a former jail that now serves as a museum, and the St. Stephen’s University Chapel, a Gothic-style building that dates back to the early 20th century.
